Pollination – How are cannabis seeds formed?

The pollination process is a process in which the pollen that forms inside the sacs on top of the male plant is absorbed within the female plant and causes it to produce seeds within its normal flowers. This is the natural process that happens in nature to produce seeds and continue the lineage, but how do you prevent this from happening in home growing? Everything you need to know about pollination and the creation of cannabis seeds.
The cannabis plant is a plant that reproduces in nature through seed dispersal, like other plants that are unable to fertilize themselves (unless it's a hermaphrodite) and need the help of wind and animals.

Cannabis seeds are created through a natural process and develop within the flowers that grow on the female plant after it has been fertilized by a male plant.

Creating cannabis seeds in nature – the pollination between male and female

The process by which cannabis seeds are formed within the flowers of the female plant begins in an initial stage called pollination in which the stamens of the male plant ( not to be confused with trichomes ) are absorbed within the reproductive organs of the female plant.

The organs in the plant that are responsible for this process are the pistil (female) that receives the male stamens that develop in the follicle sacs that grow under the tiny flowers of the male plant. Just like in humans, even in the case of cannabis all, it takes to perform successful fertilization is one grain of powder that will reach the ovary at the base of the pistil.

If one single pollen is successfully absorbed in the female ovary, it will fertilize the plant and cause it to begin the reproductive process – a short process that takes about three weeks and at the end, the plant will be ready to reproduce by natural means.

Unlike an unfertilized female cannabis plant, which develops succulent, fragrant and seedless flowers, a fertilized female cannabis plant will develop flowers full of seeds, which are familiar to cannabis consumers who buy their stuff from bad sources.

The obvious drawback in cannabis flowers full of seeds is that they are much less comfortable to smoke, as the seeds tend to “explode” on contact with heat and clog the grinder. In addition, what not everyone knows is that these flowers have much less THC because the plant has invested too many resources in seed development.

So how do you avoid it in your home? As a general rule, it is advisable not to take risks and choose another path. If you have nevertheless reached a situation where you give up cuttings and “female” seeds and instead choose to grow random seeds from an unknown source, which means that you may have males, you must be extra careful.

First of all, be vigilant in the pre-flowering stage, where the sex indicators will be revealed. You want to identify the males as early as possible and get rid of them immediately before fertilization takes place. The males you have found should be removed from the tent very gently, without shaking the plant at all, or you risk extensive fertilization of the entire growing space.
